The leader of the Popular Party (PP) and candidate for the Presidency of the Government, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, admitted this Tuesday that he is looking for a “formula” with Vox in the Senate, considering that it would be “a mistake to facilitate sanchismo” control of this Chamber, either directly or indirectly.
According to the president of the PP, there is already a formula derived from the agreements reached by both formations in several autonomous communities, agreements that have allowed those of Santiago Abascal to achieve five seats in the Upper House.
“They know how far we can go. They know that we have a sense of state. Therefore, if it is reciprocal, if one knows how far one can go depending on what one has and the sense of state is maintained, it is evident that some formula will have to be sought,” said Alberto Núñez Feijóo.
Five senators as a result of regional agreements
Feijóo specified that Vox now has “five senators” who, he indicated, are “the result of agreements in regional parliaments”. In that vein, he added that these are “regional senators appointed in the communities where the PP governs by having reached an agreement with Vox”.
In that context, the leader of the PP has maintained that he understands that “there are possibilities of reaching common ground”, although he has called for “respect and discretion” in this matter. “Respect and discretion, but I will not hide from you that it would be a mistake to facilitate sanchismo control directly or indirectly,” he stated.
Objective: not to hand over the Senate to sanchismo
Feijóo insisted that the PP's objective is to avoid handing over the Senate to “sanchismo”. “We have the commitment to opt, not only for the absolute majority that the PP already has alone, but to be able to achieve three-fifths. I will work for that,” he said.
