Feijóo presents the PP candidates in 11 capitals and sends a warning to Sánchez: "The ballot boxes will also be his sentence"

The Popular Party has staged this Saturday in Santiago de Compostela the start of its municipal strategy for the 2027 elections with the presentation of its candidates in the provincial capitals. The party will keep the 30 mayors who currently govern under its acronym, while it will renew its aspirants in 11 of the 20 capitals where it does not hold local power. The changes affect Jaén, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Ávila, León, Palencia, Soria, Zamora, Girona, Vitoria and Ourense. Added to these is the case of Murcia, where the candidate will be the current mayor, Rebeca Pérez, after the death of José Ballesta.

The candidates were the protagonists of a day held in the City of Culture, where they had a brief space to present themselves and convey their messages for the upcoming elections. During the interventions there were references to the football World Cup, the Camino de Santiago, local traditions and even the rivalry between cities for having the best fairs or the best quality of life in the country.

The closing of the event was led by the national president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who took advantage of the occasion to criticize the Government of Pedro Sánchez and place the upcoming electoral calls as a decisive test for the Executive. "Sanchismo has already been condemned in all its forms of corruption and the polls will also be its sentence," he affirmed before the popular leaders and candidates.

Feijóo defended that the electoral result will be the true political thermometer, regardless of when the next general elections are called. In this sense, he maintained that the party's objective is to maintain closeness with citizens and present an alternative government project. "The polls will also be its sentence," he insisted, convinced that voters will have the last word on the continuity of the current Executive.

The popular leader also resorted to numerous football references to encourage the municipal candidates, whom he defined as his particular "team". He asked them for effort, humility, public service and "decency", and distanced himself from the Prime Minister by stating: "I don't want you to defend me in the indefensible. I am not Sánchez". He also vindicated the internal strength of his party by pointing out that it has enough replacements for any political responsibility, although he concluded with a message of confidence for future electoral appointments: "If you have to leave, there is no problem (...) I say the same… because you are not going to beat me."
