Félix Bolaños, Minister of the Presidency and Justice, and the Partido Popular starred this Wednesday in a clash in the Government control session in the Plenary of Congress, all this after the popular party accused him of having negotiated with the Prosecutor's Office benefits for a clan of drug traffickers who, according to journalistic information, had been contacted by the so-called "PSOE plumber", Leire Díez, to harass judge Beatriz Biedma, sister of Pedro Sánchez's brother.
The general secretary of the PP, Miguel Tellado, has maintained that Bolaños is part of the "socialist sewer" and has affirmed that the minister was in Moncloa when, according to his version, an operation was organized with the aim of "extorting" and "silencing" judges and agents and "boycotting" judicial and police investigations around the family of the President of the Government.
Tellado added that Bolaños was "hand in hand with Leire Díez talking to the Prosecutor's Office to reduce the investigations" about the so-called 'Rochos clan', and asked him if he was acting on orders from Santos Cerdán or Pedro Sánchez. The popular leader also reproached him for not having uttered, in his opinion, "any word in defense of that judge".
Bolaños calls the accusations "falsehood" and focuses on housing
In response, Félix Bolaños denied the accusations and branded them "falsehoods", and counterattacked by asking him about his responsibility in corruption cases such as Lezo, Púnica and Gürtel, in addition to mentioning two convictions of PP leaders and the 47 defendants of the PP in Almería.
The minister has acknowledged that PSOE and PP, as large and governing parties, have "unfortunately" corruption cases and has assured that each one is more hurt by those affecting their ranks, although he has marked a difference between these episodes and the "defamations, lies and insinuations" that, he said, Tellado practices every Wednesday.
In addition, Bolaños chose to divert the debate towards housing policy and has urged the PP to clarify whether it will support the housing decrees approved by the Government. "What are you going to vote on Friday? Are you going to continue being so cruel and so inhuman as to vote against the interest of the vast majority of people in this country?", he stressed.
The minister also criticized the PP for its vote against a previous housing decree and addressed Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo to ask if she is with "the heartless speculators" or with "the people who need a home".
Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo raises the tone and reopens the clash over housing
Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo, deputy spokesperson for the PP, has resumed the accusations against the minister and reproached him for not having answered Tellado. "Are you involved in the harassment of a judge or do you simply want to jump ship?", she asked him.
The deputy recalled that Pedro Sánchez came to power "invoking political responsibility" and questioned why, after the Ábalos case, the president does not apply "his own doctrine to himself". She also called him "coward" and reproached the Executive for having gone from "apostles of political responsibility to emperors of evasion".
Regarding housing, she accused the Government of inciting "the mob against property, law and the State, in Sol and in Ceuta" and demanded an "urgent eviction": "Yours from Moncloa". In addition, she ironized about the protests and assured that the Government already has its "15 meme".
Rebuttals: Bolaños accuses the opposition of hoaxes and again demands a vote on housing
Bolaños replied that "the acid test" that what Tellado affirmed is "a hoax" is that Álvarez de Toledo propagates it, whom he described as "the greatest disseminator of hoaxes in history" of Spain. He also criticized her for having propagated "the 11M hoax" and described the opposition as "ridiculous, hyperventilated and toxic".
Ester Muñoz and Pepa Millán extend criticism to the Executive
Later, in an interpellation, Ester Muñoz, the spokesperson for the PP, insisted on the questions and accusations of her colleagues and also reproached Bolaños for having come out in defense of people who were subsequently investigated or convicted in corruption cases. "He has preferred to be a mafia lawyer than Minister of Justice", she said, reviewing his public statements about businessman Víctor de Aldama, the former Secretary of Organization of the PSOE Santos Cerdán and the former Attorney General of the State Álvaro García Ortiz.
Muñoz also attacked the minister's assessments of the investigations into Begoña Gómez and David Sánchez, and recalled that in the first case Bolaños spoke of a "ruthless political persecution" and criticized the actions of judge Peinado, while in the second she reproached him for calling the resolution that brought the president's brother to trial "surprising" and warning that "haste is not a good counselor".
In response, the minister rejected these accusations and defended his management, highlighting his policies in this area. He also reiterated that he has "no involvement" in the cases mentioned by Muñoz and contrasted that statement with what he called "insinuations", "defamations", "hoaxes" and "lies". Bolaños added that any criminal or irregular responsibility will have his "direct rejection" and defended that Justice investigate and that "whoever has to pay, pays", and again recalled corrupt plots that have affected the PP and vindicated the anti-corruption plan approved by the Government in 2025.
Vox enters the debate: Pepa Millán accuses the Government of wanting "eight years of amnesia"
For her part, the spokesperson for Vox in Congress, Pepa Millán, asked Bolaños if he believes that Spaniards are better off than eight years ago. The minister resorted to a scene from 'Life of Brian' to defend the Executive's management and cited the rise in the minimum wage and scholarships, economic growth, the 22 million affiliates and paternity leave.
Then, Millán accused the Government of trying to make people believe that "it has just come to power" so as not to take responsibility for what happened during its years in office and of trying to "write the BOE with one hand and the banner with the other". She also maintained that the Government wants to turn "eight years of betrayals into eight years of amnesia" and launched accusations about corruption, immigration, housing and Ceuta.
Bolaños replied by accusing Vox of wanting to return to "the Stone Age" and defended the people camped in Sol. Finally, he vindicated the approved decrees and accused Vox of being "with the speculators, with the vultures" and of being "harmful and toxic for people's lives".
