Vox has ratified this Wednesday its rejection of the housing decrees approved by the Government, considering that they deepen the problem that, in its opinion, the Spanish real estate market is dragging: low supply and high demand. The two texts, which will be put to a vote this Friday in the Congress for their validation, include measures such as the prohibition of evictions until 2030, the limitation of rent increases, and the automatic renewal of rental contracts.
The national spokesperson for Housing of Vox, Carlos Hernández Quero, has explained that he has already been able to review the decree published in the Official State Gazette (BOE), although he specified that the second text, related to the automatic renewal of contracts, has not yet been made public. In statements to Telecinco collected by Europa Press, he defended that the norm “continues a trajectory that Spain has been suffering for many years: less supply and more demand.”
Hernández Quero has maintained that, when aid or advantages are introduced for buyers and tenants, the market transfers that margin to the final price. “If the landlord knows that the tenant has more money in their pocket, they raise prices,” he stated, before adding that “with zero-interest loans for the buyer, the seller will also raise prices” and that “if there is talk of giving 50,000 euros for a down payment on an apartment, prices will go up by 50,000 euros.”
Vox's proposal: more social housing, border control, and expulsion of immigrants
Against the Government's measures, Vox proposes building more social housing, expelling immigrants, and strengthening border control as a solution to the housing problem. “If people keep coming and nothing is built, it is impossible for prices to go down; there are many people looking for homes and very few available homes, and the result is impossible prices,” summarized the party leader.
Pepa Rodríguez de Millán accuses the Government of “hypocrisy”
The spokesperson for Vox in the Congress, Pepa Rodríguez de Millán, took advantage of the control session with the Executive to recall that the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, traveled to New York in 2021 to meet with large investment funds. In her speech, she reproached the Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Cortes, Félix Bolaños, for the Government's “hypocrisy” because, she said, “it intends to write the BOE with one hand and the banner with the other to continue deceiving Spaniards.”
Rodríguez de Millán went further and assured that the Executive has decided to “send its militias to the streets” to try to convey that it is not responsible for the housing problem in Spain. “They haven't lifted a finger in eight years,” she pointed out, before calling the housing measures the Government's “penultimate scam.”
