The Ministry of Health has confirmed the first definitive case of hantavirus in Spain related to the outbreak detected on the cruise ship MV Hondius. The patient, who remained isolated in the Central Defense Hospital Gómez Ulla of Madrid after a "provisional" PCR result, has finally tested positive in the conclusive tests carried out by the health authorities.
According to the medical update released this Tuesday, the affected person presented during the last hours low-grade fever and mild respiratory symptoms, although he remains stable and without evident clinical worsening. Meanwhile, the definitive tests performed on the rest of the people who remained under observation in the hospital have confirmed a total of 13 negative results, ruling out for now new contagions among the repatriated Spanish passengers.
On the other hand, the health authorities have also clarified the situation of the American citizen whose case had generated doubts in Cabo Verde after an initially inconclusive result. Finally, the definitive analysis carried out by the HSC has confirmed that the passenger is not infected with hantavirus, thus reducing the number of positives linked to the outbreak on the MV Hondius cruise ship.
