The general secretary of Podemos, Ione Belarra, has criticized the Executive's management and accused the president, Pedro Sánchez, of favoring the advance of the right, pointing out that he is the "gasoline" of PP and Vox, due to the judicial investigations affecting the socialist environment. Likewise, she has criticized the lack of progressive initiatives during the legislature. The confrontation between the 'purples' and the socialists occurs at the moment when former president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero is in the Audiencia Nacional testifying for six alleged crimes.
In response, Sánchez has asked the leader of Podemos to maintain support for the Executive and not contribute to weakening the investiture bloc. "Don't be mistaken, those of us who want and defend people's rights are here, not there," said the head of the Government from the rostrum, addressing the Popular Party bench.
During the exchange, the president defended his cabinet's actions, focusing on economic data. He also rejected Belarra's criticisms about the state of the legislature. In his opinion, considering that the "legislature is dead or exhausted" is a wrong diagnosis. In this regard, he defended that the Government continues to work "every day" to improve the living conditions of "ordinary people."
For her part, Belarra has accused the PSOE of having disappointed the expectations of those who supported the left in the 2023 general elections. The Podemos leader has maintained that Sánchez is giving "gasoline" to the right, referring to the PP and Vox, due to the management of alleged corruption cases linked to the socialist environment.
The general secretary of Podemos has also reproached the PSOE for having joined its votes with those of the PP to prevent the processing of an initiative promoted by her party. The proposal sought that workers with 40 or more years of contributions could access early retirement without reduction coefficients or cuts in the amount of their pensions.
Likewise, she has criticized that the Popular Party can give "lessons" on democratic regeneration in Congress.
