IU breaks with the Government's management in Ceuta and demands the transfer of all migrants: "The solution is not camps"

Izquierda Unida has increased the pressure on the Government this Thursday over the Ceuta migration crisis. Its parliamentary spokesperson, Enrique Santiago, has demanded the transfer to the Peninsula of the more than 5,000 people who remain in the autonomous city, including adults and minors, while the authorities process their files.

The proposal goes beyond the plan on which the Ministry of Youth and Childhood is working to urgently transfer about 500 girls. IU considers that the situation requires decongesting Ceuta and reproaches the Executive that no high-ranking official has remained continuously on the ground since the massive entry recorded at the end of July.

"It is evident that public opinion needs a reassurance that comes from the permanent presence of high-ranking officials," Santiago stated during an interview on 'laSexta'. The deputy maintains that IU would have managed the crisis with a much more constant political presence. Its federal coordinator, Antonio Maíllo, had already argued that Pedro Sánchez should have traveled to Ceuta until the situation was channeled.

The transfer proposed by the party would be temporary and would allow each case to be processed outside a city subjected to extraordinary pressure. The authorities would have to determine who can apply for asylum or receive protection and who must return to their country of origin. The article 4 of Protocol number 4 of the European Convention on Human Rights establishes that "collective expulsions of foreigners are prohibited". The doctrine of the European Court of Human Rights requires a reasonable and objective examination of the particular circumstances of the affected persons.

IU accuses Feijóo and Vivas of using Ceuta as a "hostage"

Santiago has lashed out against those who demand the immediate return of all migrants. "You cannot make thousands of people disappear into thin air," he warned before accusing the PP and the far-right Vox of turning Ceuta's society into a "hostage" of an electoral strategy. IU recalls that returns require identification, legal guarantees, and an individual resolution.

The spokesperson also criticized the president of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, for rejecting the transfers to the Peninsula. In his opinion, the popular leader is campaigning under pressure from Alberto Núñez Feijóo and has relegated to the background the immediate interests of a city with overwhelmed reception services.

IU also maintains that the temporary camps set up in Ceuta barely offer a provisional response. "Camps are not the solution," Santiago defended, asking to use the available administrative tools to transfer migrants while procedures advance.

The party registered a series of questions in Congress this Wednesday about the alleged "hybrid war" deployed by Morocco against Spain. Deputies Enrique Santiago, Francisco Sierra, and Fèlix Alonso attributed to Rabat a combination of migratory, diplomatic, and digital pressure, and asked to review Spanish dependencies regarding American and Israeli technologies.

The Government currently keeps on the table the urgent transfer of 500 girls. IU demands to extend it to all people who remain in Ceuta and urges Sánchez to act with "courage." "They have to act and stop submitting to the right, apply the law," Santiago declared.
