The storm 'Leonardo' leads the authorities to order the evacuation of the 1,200 residents who remained in the municipality of Grazalema, after several hours of intense rainfall saturated the aquifers and signs of water emerging from the ground in streets and squares began to appear
The evacuation has been planned "with serenity and tranquility" and with the support of all available means, according to the president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, explained on his personal X account.
The president has visited the municipality to supervise the operation and has explained that the evacuation is being carried out taking advantage of "a window of opportunity" before another atmospheric front arrives starting Saturday.
The aquifers are full of water and, facing the risk of collapse, we are evacuating Grazalema in an orderly manner.

It is not voluntary.
Everything is underway to take the residents to a safe place and, as soon as possible, the necessary stability tests will be carried out in the area. pic.twitter.com/T76UrTdNki
“The aquifer is silted up. When an aquifer in karst terrain, the critical zone is unknown. It is an aquifer that gradually erodes the land,” explains the mayor, Carlos García.
Preventive evacuations
The eviction of Grazalema is added to other evacuations carried out in Andalusia due to the storm 'Leonardo'. Throughout the community, emergency devices have coordinated the departure of thousands of people from risk areas due to floods and overflows of watercourses
Both the evacuation in Grazalema, as well as from other towns in the area, are part of the joint response of the administrations to protect the population in the face of heavy rains and the risks associated with the storm affecting a large part of Andalusia and other regions of Spain.
