The spokesperson for Junts in Congress, Miriam Nogueras, on Wednesday questioned her party's support for the two housing decrees approved by the Government of Pedro Sánchez. The deputy stated that there is a feeling of "disappointment and concern" among the independentistas, although she avoided revealing what position they will adopt in Friday's vote.

In statements to the media in Congress, Nogueras pointed out that the decrees do not address the two priorities that Junts had set for supporting the measures: the protection of families and curbing the actions of vulture funds.

The spokesperson warned that there is still "much work" to be done before setting a definitive position. Therefore, she explained that her party will continue to examine "every page" of the decrees over the next few hours before deciding the direction of their vote.

One of the main points of disagreement lies, according to Nogueras, in the regulation of housing in the hands of large investors. The spokesperson believes that, as the texts are drafted, vulture funds "can continue buying," which means that one of the objectives Junts had presented to the Government is not being met.

Criticism of the regulation of inherited homes

Nogueras also questioned another aspect included in the decrees. Specifically, she pointed out that, if an owner wants to leave a rented home to their child as an inheritance, the tenant would have priority to acquire the property.

The Junts spokesperson demanded greater specificity from the Executive before her group determines its position. "We asked for rigor and solvency and we are concerned because this initial analysis does not reflect it," she stated.

Thus, Junts keeps its decision on the validation of the housing measures open and will continue to study their content before making a definitive statement in Congress.

Feijóo announces a no vote

The leader of the Popular Party (PP), Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has accused the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, of "deceiving" citizens with the housing decrees and has announced that his group will vote against their validation in the Plenary Session of Congress to be held this Friday, a strategy that aligns with the total blockade of the far-right Vox against everything that emanates from the Government.

"I am not going to support a cheating Government. Spaniards do not deserve a cheating Government," Alberto Núñez Feijóo stated to the media in the corridors of Congress, after several ministers had urged him during the government control session to clarify the Popular Group's voting intention.

The president of the PP maintained that the Government has been "incapable of implementing a minimally sensible housing policy" during the last eight years and reproached that, to this day, they still "do not know the literal text of one of the two decrees that the Council of Ministers apparently approved" this Tuesday.

In his speech, Feijóo emphasized that the situation "exceeds all acceptable limits in a democracy" and denounced that the Executive has approved, according to his version, two royal decrees that contradict each other. "The Government yesterday approved two royal decrees in which one of them repeals the previous one. The Government has approved two incompatible norms," he pointed out.

Asked about the possibility that the Basque Nationalist Party (PNV) and Junts could pass the Executive's housing measures, Feijóo responded with a message directed at both formations: "It's up to the Basque Nationalist Party and Junts if they want to be part of a trap. They will know why."
