Junts per Catalunya has requested this Wednesday the appearance in the Senate of the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, to report on all the railway accidents of the past few days in Gelida (Barcelona) and Adamuz (Córdoba), which left several fatalities and injuries. The party considers that these incidents highlight serious failures in infrastructure management and railway safety.
The political party has argued that, given the magnitude of the accidents and the general concern of workers and users, it is necessary for the minister to explain in the upper house what immediate measures he intends to adopt to prevent further incidents and guarantee the safety of the high-speed and commuter rail lines.
The accident in Gelida, where a Rodalies de Catalunya R4 line train collided with a retaining wall, causing the death of a driver and several injuries, and the crash in Adamuz on the Madrid-Seville high-speed line, which left 42 fatalities, have generated great concern among trade unions and rail users. In response to these incidents, Junts has called on the Government for concrete measures to improve safety, such as strengthening track supervision, reviewing maintenance protocols, improving driver training, and better planning of rail services, and has requested clear answers on the causes of both accidents to prevent similar situations from recurring
