The spokesperson for Más Madrid in the Assembly of Madrid, Manuela Bergerot, has accused the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, of "illegally closing" the Metro de Sol station, an episode that has reignited the political confrontation surrounding the encampment set up in the square.
The exchange of reproaches took place at the press conference after the Board of Spokespersons, after the regional Executive closed this central station last week for health reasons and reopened it on Saturday afternoon.
Bergerot speaks of a legitimate protest
Bergerot has maintained that the workers are "against" this closure and has defended that the "only objective" of the decision is to "criminalize an encampment that is a legitimate form of protest".
The spokesperson for Más Madrid has thus framed the regional government's measure within a strategy aimed at questioning the protest that maintains the occupation of the Puerta del Sol, one of the busiest points in the center of the capital.
The PP warns of security and health risks
For his part, the spokesperson for the Popular Party in the Assembly, Carlos Díaz-Pache, has criticized the encampment and has assured that there are "security problems and damage to heritage", to which are added, he said, the "health problems that also affect workers and travelers".
Carlos Díaz-Pache has also reproached the encampment for "privatizing" the square, before adding that "the problem has not ended", because, as he explained, the ventilation shafts in the Puerta del Sol remain obstructed. "And there is a Metro report that says that the current section could compromise the safety of workers and travelers", he pointed out.
In the same vein, he has assured that the ventilation shafts are closed and covered by the tents and the "belongings of these supposed protesters". "It is a group that represents no one and that cannot take the Puerta del Sol away from the people of Madrid", he concluded.
