Mazón's deputy deed is not in danger despite the clear request from the DANA victims: Feijóo does not totally disapprove of the former president

Despite the strong political pressure and the repeated requests from the victims of **Dana**, Alberto Núñez Feijóo **never asked for Carlos Mazón's resignation** for his management of the catastrophe, in which 237 people died. It was the former president of the Generalitat himself who decided to leave office after the state funeral, marked by tension and the cries of the victims' familiesFour months after that resignation, the PP leader maintains the same position: not to break with Mazón and continue defending him, as we could see yesterday during his appearance before the Congressional investigation committee. In his appearance of more than three hours before the Congressional committee on the dana, Feijóo did not distance himself from Carlos Mazón and defended his management of the floods in Valencia. He acknowledged that resigning was "honest" because the citizens "did not agree with him" and admitted that "no Administration was up to the circumstances," presenting the errors as a collective failure and minimizing Mazón's responsibility compared to Pedro Sánchez's management.

What do the victims say?

The associations of victims of the dana have indeed explicitly demanded that Mazón hand over his deputy's seat. We have heard this demand in several demonstrations in the Valencian Community that demand justice for the catastrophe and criticize the political management of the former president. The attendees at these demonstrations shouted “Feijóo and Mazón are accomplices” and denounced the incompetence in the response to the emergency that left fatalities and damage to their properties.

But the debate over the handover of the deputy's certificate has not opened in the PP. Feijóo has barely distanced himself from the former president and dodged requests for him to be required to also renounce his seat in Les Corts Valencianes

What does it imply that Mazón does not hand over his deputy seat?

Carlos Mazón, as a deputy, has special legal protections such as immunity and parliamentary privilege. This means that he cannot be easily arrested and that only a higher court can investigate him for matters related to his position. If a judge wants to open proceedings against him, they must first ask for permission from the regional parliament.

These protections explain why the judge investigating the management of the Dana cannot act directly against Mazón while he remains a deputy. Only if he voluntarily resigned his seat would he lose these guarantees and could be investigated like any citizen, which would facilitate the case advancing without the need for special procedures
