Minister Sira Rego confirms she will not run in the general elections and defends the work of politics: "Absolutely necessary for the most vulnerable people"

"I will not be on the next electoral lists", stated the Minister of Youth and Children, Sira Rego, in an interview she granted to the news agency 'Europa Press'. The head of Youth has announced that she will not be present on the lists being prepared by IU, Sumar, Más Madrid and Comuns for the next general elections. 

In this regard, the minister explained in her conversation with the media that "after being in institutional politics and also on the front line, I believe it is healthy to step aside and put the best, the learning and the accumulated knowledge we have, at the disposal of the projects that are to come".

Likewise, she supported the "collective intelligence" of the political parties to the left of the PSOE to choose a candidate and that they must carry out a "minimum program" that protects public services, feminism, ecologism and the defense of children's rights. 

On the other hand, the minister was asked by the media about the judicial situation of former president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero who is being investigated for the rescue of the airline Plus Ultra. In this regard, she reiterated that it is necessary for Zapatero to give more explanations and that she understands the "political disaffection" due to these cases of alleged corruption on the part of the citizenry. 

"Politics is absolutely necessary, especially for the most vulnerable people, for working people, for people who do not have resources because through politics we manage to change things, expand rights and expand freedoms", Sira Rego praised in her interview with 'Europa Press'.
