The MEP and political secretary of Podemos, Irene Montero, has confirmed that her party will initiate a round of contacts “with everyone”, including Izquierda Unida and Sumar, to give shape to the broad front that she presented last Thursday together with the spokesperson for ERC, Gabriel Rufián.

In several interviews granted to media outlets such as 'TVE' or 'RAC1', Montero has acknowledged that, after that first political gesture, there is still “a path ahead”, but has stressed that the act staged a clear “will to work as a team” among progressive forces.

The objective, as he has explained, is to build a candidacy capable of mobilizing the electorate and achieving “a left with the capacity to transform” both in Catalonia and in the whole of Spain in the next general elections.

Asked directly about possible conversations with Sumar or IU, Montero has been clear: “One must talk to everyone.” However, she has asked for prudence and to avoid rushing announcements: “One must not get ahead of steps. When we have something agreed upon and it is comfortable for everyone, we will say it.”

The leader has insisted on the need to respect the timings of each organization, as well as unions and social movements, defending that agreements must be built with discretion: "Conversations exist, but one must go step by step."

Furthermore, he has admitted that he “would love” to run alongside Rufián in a general election, although he has clarified that that decision will come later and that, in the case of Podemos, candidates are chosen through primaries: “That is decided by the people”.

Finally, Montero has claimed the importance of the distribution of power within the candidacies, rejecting its stigmatization: “Criminalizing the distribution of power does not usually help.” In her opinion, “it does not matter who leads or is in certain positions,” as it can be key to promoting social policies, feminist laws or confronting what she has called “judicial coupism.”
