The leader of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has distanced himself from the stance of the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, after she publicly defended Julio Iglesias, stating that the Community of Madrid "will not contribute to the discrediting of artists." Feijóo, in contrast to what Ayuso declared yesterday, has asked to wait for the Justice system to investigate the allegations before making public judgments, describing the events as "very serious" and expressing his surprise at the controversy surrounding the singer.

The accusations against Iglesias come from two women who worked as domestic employees and who allege sexual assaults that occurred in 2021. The National High Court's Prosecutor's Office has received the complaint and has initiated the relevant proceedings to investigate the facts presented by these women.

Feijóo's stance has been prudent and focused on **respecting the judicial process**, while Ayuso defended the singer on social media, drawing criticism from political parties, feminist associations, and cultural sectors. According to some political entities, such as the Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo, it is essential that the accusations be investigated "to the end" and that institutions side with the victims. **Regardless of the status of the accused figure**.

The confrontation between Feijóo and Ayuso highlights the internal division within the PP regarding how to act in high-profile cases and their perception on social issues. Meanwhile, other party leaders have preferred not to take a stance until the investigation progresses, out of "precaution."
