The Partido Popular and the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, have engaged in a new confrontation on social media just 24 hours after the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, announced the call for general elections for November 29. The clash originated from a publication disseminated by the official PP account on X in which the popular party recovered images of the minister after the injury he suffered in 2023, as an attempt at humiliation.
The images correspond to an episode that occurred when Puente was still mayor of Valladolid. In April of that year, the then socialist candidate suffered a fall during a visit to some construction works that caused him an injury for which he had to undergo surgery. The episode took place during the campaign for the 2023 municipal elections and forced Puente to move around during part of those days in a wheelchair and with crutches.

More than three years later, the PP has recovered those images and used them in a publication disseminated in the wake of Sánchez's election announcement. The minister did not let the message pass and responded from his own X account, confronting the offensive. "That this was going to end up serving that party of wretches that is the PP to campaign is something that shows the level they have reached. They are the worst scum inhabiting this country. By the way, I broke my knee working, something that the lazy person you put in the mayor's office doesn't do," Óscar Puente declared.

The PP recovers images of Puente's injury
The video published by the popular party uses archive images of Óscar Puente after the accident he suffered in Valladolid in April 2023. At that time, the current minister was mayor of the city and PSOE candidate to revalidate the position in the municipal elections. Puente had to undergo surgery after suffering a quadriceps rupture as a result of the fall. The injury conditioned his activity during that campaign and the socialist leader appeared publicly using first a wheelchair and then crutches.
The PP has now recovered this material to incorporate it into its communication strategy on social networks coinciding with the start of the new electoral cycle. The publication has generated responses and criticism for the political use of images related to a physical injury of the minister.
