Harsh and direct statements from both the president of the Popular Party Alberto Núñez Feijóo and the president of the Community of Madrid Isabel Díaz Ayuso, attacking the Sánchez Government for using the `Grandchildren's Law´. Feijóo called this maneuver "electoral engineering" through the supposed "fabrication" of new voters for the upcoming general elections. Ayuso has joined these statements, adding that the use of this law is "illegal" if it is granted to people who do not deserve it.

After these words, the Minister of Transport Óscar Puente has spoken out to defend the `Grandchildren's Law´ on his X social media account. In this statement, he wanted to clarify what the law is that Ayuso and Feijóo are complaining about. "It is a provision within the democratic memory law that allows children and grandchildren of Spaniards of origin (that is, born in Spain) to opt for Spanish nationality," Puente comments.

He also added a series of data to clarify the matter: "Until now, beyond the figures given, in four years 500,000 people have obtained nationality although only 316,000 are registered, therefore only 316,000 would have the right to vote. Of the 2,500,000 Spaniards abroad with the right to vote, only about 8% vote (data from the 2023 general elections)," the minister details, subsequently adding that the PP won the CERA vote in 2023.

"In the Andalusian elections, the CERA vote did not change the result. In the Extremaduran elections, the CERA vote did not change the result," the Minister of Transport continues to explain. Finally, he concludes with a final message supporting the Government: "To think that the government manages each citizen in each place where they are to register in one province or another to alter the electoral results is science fiction and materially impossible."
