António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, has appointed the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, as the new co-chair of the Advocates for the Sustainable Development Goals, which are part of what is known as the 2030 Agenda, alongside the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley.
Guterres welcomed Pedro Sánchez this past Wednesday, whom he described as “a dynamic leader on fundamental issues, such as financing for development, education, equality, and climate action,” he highlighted. Furthermore, he also wanted to emphasize how, under his leadership, the IV International Conference on Financing in Seville was successfully held this year.
“The Sustainable Development Goals are at risk of falling out of reach,” Guterres warned when less than five years remain to reach the deadline that had been set to advance this action plan which aims to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure the well-being of the general population by 2030.
For his part, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has committed “to continue working to ensure that the 2030 Agenda is implemented.” He also commented that he wants his work “to translate into opportunities, well-being, and prosperity for all people, leaving no one behind, while we take care of our planet for present and future generations,” the president concluded.
