Pedro Sánchez dodges Trump's reception due to a "private commitment"

According to government sources, Pedro Sánchez will not attend the reception hosted by Donald Trump on Tuesday night as part of the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly, as the event coincides with a private commitment that is not on the Prime Minister's public agenda. Sánchez received the invitation for the traditional reception organized by Trump last week, but his schedule for this Tuesday, September 22, a day marked by several institutional events, was already set.

The same sources indicate that the head of the Executive does not have any public event that overlaps with the appointment called by the US president, scheduled for 1:00 AM Spanish time, although he does maintain a private event that is not included in the daily list of activities disseminated by the Government.

Sánchez's agenda at the General Assembly

The Prime Minister's day begins with his attendance at the opening session of the General Debate of the 81st session of the General Assembly, scheduled for 3:00 PM in Spain. Later, at 8:00 PM, he will participate in the tribute to the feminist activist Gloria Steinem, who passed away this year.

Afterwards, at 9:00 PM, Sánchez will take part in an event on the protection of children against Artificial Intelligence, and at 10:00 PM he will attend a meeting of the group of defenders of the Sustainable Development Goals focused on development financing.

Trump's event, outside his public agenda

Trump's reception will be held in the early hours of the morning Spanish time, while Sánchez will continue to attend a reserved commitment that, according to Moncloa, is not on the official agenda published daily by the Executive. Sources from the Presidency of the Government have told Europa Press that this is the reason why the president will not attend the event offered by the US president.
