The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has demanded from the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, a tax cut given the economic impact derived from the war in Iran, while also warning him not to use an omnibus decree to approve measures. “Don't even think about bringing the measures in an omnibus decree,” he stated during his intervention during the control session in Congress, accusing the Executive of taking advantage of the international context: “He takes advantage of the war”.
Feijóo focused his criticism on the Government's economic policy, defending the need to alleviate the tax burden on citizens. In this regard, he called for reducing taxes such as personal income tax (IRPF), energy VAT, or levies on fuels, insisting that the Executive is “squeezing Spaniards” at a time of particular difficulty.
For his part, Pedro Sánchez raised the tone of the debate and moved the discussion to the international level, questioning the popular leader's position on the conflict. The president urged him to clarify whether he supports the strategy of United States and, specifically, to distance himself from Donald Trump. “Say whether or not you support Trump and Israel's war in Iran,” he demanded.
Sánchez went further and accused Feijóo of political incoherence, pointing out that one cannot support those who generate conflict and then criticize its consequences. “You cannot encourage and support those who set fires and then complain about those who cause that fire,” he stated, demanding that he “rectify” his position.
