Frente Amplio demanded this Wednesday that "responsibilities be assumed at all levels", including political ones, after the train accident in Urda, Toledo, which has left at least 68 dead. The coalition calls for an independent audit of the state of the network and related services, and demands maximum transparency to clarify the tragedy.
The statement begins with condolences to the families and friends of the deceased, from a place of "consternation and sadness". The candidacy has expressed its support for those affected, the teams deployed to the area, and all railway workers.
"The recurrence of such a serious accident on the high-speed network in the same year is inadmissible," the text states, referring to the accidents in Toledo and Adamuz. Frente Amplio believes that the seriousness of what happened requires clear explanations and an independent examination of the network's conditions.

The coalition's demand covers both the clarification of the accident and a broader review of the railway system. "Beyond technical responsibilities, we demand the assumption of political responsibilities. For responsibility and for humanity," it claims. The statement came after the appearances of the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, and the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, with the investigation into the causes still open.
The request comes from the political space that brings together IU, Más Madrid, Movimiento Sumar and the Comuns, parties with a presence in the Government. Its candidate for the Presidency, Ada Colau, had expressed this morning her concern about the news of the accident and her solidarity with those affected, in addition to supporting the emergency services working on the ground.
Also the federal coordinator of IU, Antonio Maíllo, has conveyed his organization's support to the passengers and the mobilized public services. He has asked for caution regarding the information that is being released. "It is time to be prudent and only pay attention to information from official bodies," he said.
Frente Amplio has canceled its pre-campaign agendas until further notice. "There are much more important things than any campaign," the statement concludes.
