From "chistorras" to Leire Díez: the Popular Party puts all PSOE accounting "under suspicion"

The Popular Party has taken advantage of the new economic piece of the 'Leire Díez case' to extend its suspicions about the entirety of the socialist accounts. "All of the PSOE's accounting is under suspicion," sources from 'Génova' maintain after it became known that Judge Santiago Pedraz has ordered the tracking of six accounts of the party.

The magistrate has requested information from twelve financial entities regarding the movements and balances of 81 accounts linked to the case. In addition to the six belonging to the PSOE, the investigation reaches former socialist leader Gaspar Zarrías, lawyers Ismael Oliver and Jacobo Teijelo, and several companies related to those under investigation.

The PP extends suspicion beyond the order

The popular leadership maintains that the proceedings will serve to verify whether the party financed the maneuvers attributed to Leire Díez against judges, prosecutors, and civil guards. The PP speaks of "sewers set up at the party's own headquarters" and accuses Ferraz of having put its resources at the service of the investigated group.

The judicial scope is more concrete than the political conclusion disseminated by 'Génova'. Pedraz seeks to reconstruct possible payments to Leire Díez and other members of the alleged plot, as well as the flow of money between the PSOE, the lawyers, and the companies that could have acted as intermediaries.

The PP has linked this investigation with the inquiries into the cash payments received by Santos Cerdán, José Luis Ábalos, and Koldo García. The popular party recovers references to "chistorras," "suns," and "lettuces" that appear in the conversations analyzed by the UCO to question whether all money movements made in Ferraz are correctly justified.

These are different judicial procedures and pieces. No resolution has so far established the existence of a single accounting system that connects all the matters cited by the PP, although the succession of investigations has allowed Feijóo to strengthen his offensive against Pedro Sánchez and the socialist leadership.

"It seems that, reformulating Zapatero's phrase, being a socialist is declaring little and having a lot," popular sources state. 'Génova' assures that "everything will eventually be known" and presents the opening of the economic piece as the beginning of a new phase for the PSOE.

Zarrías appeals and denounces a "prospective" investigation

Gaspar Zarrías has appealed Pedraz's decision, considering that the tracing of accounts linked to him is "prospective, absurd, and baseless." His defense argues that only one of them was used to make payments related to Leire Díez and accuses the UCO of trying to "look at everything to see if something is found."

The PSOE has not yet responded directly to the PP's latest statement. The socialist president, Cristina Narbona, recently denied the existence of a slush fund in the party and defended that its accounts have passed the corresponding audits and controls.

The Central Operative Unit of the Civil Guard will now receive the banking documentation within a reserved section and will prepare a report on the movements related to the case. Pedraz will then order the deletion of private data that is not relevant to the investigation.
