Cristina Seguí, Juan Soto Ivars, María Jamardo and Jorge Calabrés have responded on X to the intervention of Hugo Pereira, director of ElConstitucional.es, before the FAPE with messages ranging from personal insult to mockery against the newspaper's name. The publications came after Pereira defended the obligation to combat hoaxes and questioned the work of Vito Quiles, Iker Jiménez and Carmen Porter.

The intervention took place this Monday during the conference "New employment niches in journalism and communication", organized by the Federation of Associations of Journalists of Spain in collaboration with the "la Caixa" Foundation and held at the Camilo José Cela University. In his first public presentation of the project to the professional sector, Pereira advocated for an independent media from political parties and committed to scrutinizing political, economic and judicial powers.

"We cannot be neutral in the face of lies" summarizes the position expressed by the director. His intervention called for verified information, pluralism and professional criteria to prevent the media from becoming loudspeakers for talking points. This demand also extends to the Government and Pedro Sánchez, whose statements about Morocco he cited as an example of issues that deserve to be examined. It was in this context that he refused to equate the practice of journalism with the practices of Quiles, Jiménez and Porter.

Cristina Seguí, former leader of the far-right Vox and director of the program "La Mafia Feminista" on César Vidal TV, responded with a message personally addressed to Pereira. "But, let's see, Hugo; stop being an asshole, come on", she wrote. That was the tone chosen to answer an intervention on the ethical obligations of the profession.

The writer and columnist Juan Soto Ivars, collaborator of "Horizonte", Iker Jiménez's program on Cuatro, chose to rename this newspaper as "El Prostitucional". Jorge Calabrés, deputy director of El Español and also a collaborator of that television space, wrote "And who are you? Who have you tied with?". Both messages cite the publication that collects Pereira's intervention before the FAPE.

María Jamardo, head of Courts at El Debate and collaborator of "Horizonte", questioned the professional merits of the director. "That to claim what you don't achieve by your own merits you have to discredit the work of others, however much you don't like it, is quite symptomatic. A shame…", she wrote. Her message shifts a discussion that Pereira had raised about verification, disinformation and journalistic responsibility towards his personal trajectory.

ElConstitucional.es is not going to ask permission from the collaborators of "Horizonte" to do journalism. We will continue to contrast statements and scrutinize power, even when that power has a set and a large audience. Readers have at their disposal what Pereira said before the FAPE and the responses he has received. Our credibility is at stake in what we publish and in the evidence we provide; insults are not going to change that criterion.

Seguí has accompanied his message with screenshots of private conversations dated in 2020 and 2021, corresponding to Pereira's university stage, when he was just over twenty years old. The director has expressed on different occasions his regret for having worked at EDATV and with Javier Negre, an experience he openly acknowledges, and firmly rejects the practices he denounces today in that environment.
