The president of the Generalitat and leader of the PSC, Salvador Illa, has come out this Sunday in defense of the PSOE and of Pedro Sánchez in the midst of a judicial and political offensive against the socialist environment. During his speech at the Festa de la Rosa held in Constantí (Tarragona), Illa assured that the socialists have “no fear” of justice and vindicated respect for the rule of law and the presumption of innocence.
“We neither bend, nor surrender”, proclaimed the socialist leader after a week marked by the developments in the Leire case and the indictment of former president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero in the Plus Ultra case. Illa also defended that the PSC will collaborate with total transparency after judge Santiago Pedraz requested documentation related to the 2024 Catalan electoral campaign.
The Catalan leader closed ranks with Pedro Sánchez and assured that the President of the Government has become a “moral reference” and a “dignity” for Europe and the world thanks to the policies promoted by the Executive since 2018 in social, economic, and coexistence matters.
Illa also took advantage of his speech to lash out at the PP and former president José María Aznar, whom he accused of encouraging a strategy to “conquer power at all costs”. “Some have realized that Feijóo is not quite taking off and Aznar appears there,” he stated, in reference to the recent statements by the former popular leader.
The Catalan president concluded by vindicating the political project of the PSC and the PSOE against those who, he said, seek to “destroy the adversary” instead of confronting models democratically. Furthermore, he closed his speech by recalling a well-known phrase by José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero: “To every insult, a proposal; to every disqualification, an idea; and to every exaggeration, a very big smile”.
