Podemos has suspended its pre-campaign events during the three days of official mourning for the train accident in Urda, Toledo. The decision affects the meeting that this Saturday was to feature in Madrid Irene Montero, the party's candidate for the general elections on November 29, and Gabriel Rufián, head of the list for Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) for Barcelona.
The event on Saturday, October 31, remains to be rescheduled, according to sources from Podemos. The party, which had already canceled its calls for this Wednesday upon learning of the tragedy, will extend the suspension of its agenda until Sunday. For the moment, no new date has been announced for the Madrid event.
Montero has expressed her concern about the accident from the first hour and has placed attention to the victims ahead of electoral activity. "The top priority now are the affected people and their families," she wrote on her social networks. The candidate has also asked to facilitate the tasks of the emergency teams and has called for "us to be attentive to official information" as the operation progresses.
Mucha preocupación por el grave accidente de tren en Toledo que se acaba de dar a conocer. La máxima prioridad ahora son las personas afectadas y sus familias. Facilitemos el trabajo a los servicios de emergencias y estemos atentas a la información oficial.

The general secretary of Podemos, Ione Belarra, has also expressed her solidarity with those suffering the consequences of the crash. "All my support to the families of the victims and to those working on rescue efforts," she stated. Both Belarra and the party's official account have disseminated 900 10 10 20, the telephone number enabled by Renfe to assist victims and their families, and the party has asked to let emergency services work.

The suspension affects a new joint appearance by Montero and Rufián after the event they shared last Saturday in Nou Barris, Barcelona, and their interview this Tuesday on "La Revuelta", David Broncano's program on La 1 of TVE. Both had brought their proposals on housing, salaries, and public services to these meetings for November 29. The Madrid event will now have to find a new date within that collaboration calendar.
Frente Amplio also suspends its agenda and calls for an audit
Frente Amplio, the coalition led by Ada Colau, has also canceled its events until further notice and has expressed its condolences to the families of the deceased and its support for the injured, emergency services, and railway workers. In its statement this afternoon, the candidacy has called for an independent audit on the state of the railway network and related services, as well as clarity and transparency about what happened.
The coalition has also called for technical and political responsibilities to be assumed given the seriousness of the accident, which has left at least 68 dead, according to the provisional balance. Its statement includes the suspension of pre-campaign agendas with an express reference to the victims and the emergency. "We have canceled our agendas until further notice. There are much more important things than any campaign," the text states.
