The spokesperson for Esquerra Republicana (ERC) in Congress, Gabriel Rufián, has defended this Monday a different left-wing approach to try to stop the advance of the Partido Popular (PP) and Vox, underlining that this strategy must be "for everyone and against no one"
Several things:
— Gabriel Rufián (@gabrielrufian) February 9, 2026
1) Whoever doesn't see that something must be done either doesn't see well or is already fine with there not being anything.
2) What's coming isn't stopped by acronyms, it's stopped by peoples.
3) Tweets, articles or speculations against me won't make PP and VOX stop adding up to 200 deputies.
4) Believe…
After the regional elections in Aragon, in which the Popular Party won but without an absolute majority, depending again on the formation of Santiago Abascal, Rufián stated on his social network X that "what is coming is not stopped by acronyms, it is stopped by peoples", underlining that a broad response with the backing of society is needed to halt the advance of the right in future elections.Rufián also affirmed that his actions along with other left-wing parties seek to be "for everyone" and not "against anyone," and stressed that the response to the growth of the PP and Vox should not focus solely on the parties, but on creating common spaces that include different progressive sectors
Rufián concludes that stopping the advance of PP and Vox requires unity and coordination between different sectors of the left, focusing politics on citizens and not on conflicts between parties.
