On Thursday afternoon the spokesperson for ERC in Congress, Gabriel Rufián, and the Podemos MEP Irene Montero, carried out the event ‘What must be done?’, moderated by Xavier Domènech, at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, where they debated about the organization of the left to stop the rise of the right and extreme right.

At the meeting, what had already begun to be analyzed in the conversation in Madrid that Rufián and the Más Madrid parliamentarian maintained, was discussed, Emilio Delgado, under the motto "Dispute the present to win the future". In it, the ERC member expressed: "What sense does it make that 14 lefts, defending the same thing, compete among themselves to divide the votes of the left."

Under this context, some statements he made that have given much to talk about were those he made about attracting citizens, and, above all, young people, through an easy and clear lexicon, such as: “one family, one house”. Thus, he pointed out:I prefer to fill TikToks than libraries, because my son watches TikTok".

"There are many people on the left who feel orphan"

Likewise, Rufián asked ERC to promote the unity of the left. "There are many people on the left who feel orphaned", he pointed out. "I refuse to be ashamed for saying that I want the Spanish lefts to do well", he continued.

Rufián insisted that his model is Unidas Podemos: "What Unidas Podemos did at the time was extraordinary. Why can't it be repeated? Why can't ERC inspire that Spanish left that has a more Spanish nationalist federal and confederal project?”.

"Willingness to make team"

The MEP from Podemos Irene Montero has appeared live, this morning on Silvia Intxaurrondo's program, The Hour of ‘TVE’, to comment on yesterday's talk.

In his/her speech, he/she has declared his/her “will to work as a team” so that in the next elections there is “a left-wing candidacy, strong, and that has the capacity for transformation”.
