Rescue services have found the body of a farmer in the Pego-Oliva marshland, one of the areas most affected by the floods of dana Adam, and it is being investigated whether this death is related to the episode of torrential rains, as sources familiar with the case have confirmed to EFE.

Oliva, still with flooded streets and cut rural roads

Oliva has woken up with streets still flooded and muddy, while most rural roads remained cut off and the City Council continues to review public infrastructures, including educational centers, while residents continue to pump water out of garages and ground floors.

One of them is Mario Vidal, councilor for Education, Finance and Communication, who was surprised and isolated by the storm in the beach area, and who this morning was emptying his garage with the help of pumping equipment, while waiting for a colleague from the City Council to pick him up, after his car was flooded and rendered unusable.

“I will go to the town, I will shower, I haven't been able to shower for three days, and I will go to the multipurpose center to coordinate today's work,” Mario Vidal told EFE.

Review of educational centers and road conditions

The councilor, who is in charge of the Education area, explained that this Tuesday municipal technicians will go to the educational centers of the municipality to assess the damages. The consistory decided yesterday to suspend classes and today will study whether to maintain the measure depending on the state of the infrastructures.

“The worst one is the Gabriel Císcar institute, where a wall has fallen, and the state of the CEIP Lluís Vives, which is in a very flooded area, is yet to be known,” he detailed.Regarding the situation of the roads, Mario Vidal reported that all areas of the municipality are now accessible, although rural roads remain cut off. He also indicated that the UME and Civil Protection communicated yesterday that, once rescues and the most urgent actions were concluded, the next step was to guarantee water supply.

In addition, he specified that the electricity and communications networks have already been restored.

Institutional visit of Pedro Sánchez to Oliva

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will visit this Tuesday, together with the President of the Generalitat, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, the Advanced Command Post in Oliva and will hold a meeting with the heads of the emergency and coordination devices, as well as with mayors of municipalities affected by the DANA.

The municipal Multipurpose Center, set up as a provisional shelter, hosted some 300 residents evacuated from their homes last night.

The president will be accompanied by the third vice-president and minister for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Sara Aagesen, the Minister of Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, and the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant. The visit, scheduled for 12:30 PM, will conclude with an institutional statement to the media.
