The Minister of Youth and Childhood, Sira Rego, warned this Thursday that solidarity with Ceuta involves "welcoming" migrant minors on the peninsula, because, as she emphasized, it is "impossible" for the autonomous city to take care of the volume of children it holds in its reception system alone, already estimated at 2,600 minors.
In a press conference held in the Ceuta neighborhood of Príncipe, the minister stressed that the response must be based on more resources, coordination between administrations, and an equitable distribution of resources within the city itself, so that they also reach the periphery.
"Solidarity with Ceuta involves improving resources, which we have expanded, coordinating between different administrations, and demanding that resources and comprehensive plans also reach the periphery, that is, that resources are well distributed within the city," Sira Rego stated.
The Government will expedite the transfer of minors to the peninsula
The minister made it clear that the Government will expedite the procedure for the transfer of these children to the peninsula, transfers that have been estimated at 800 in the last year from Ceuta, with the aim that "the entire binding and solidarity reception system is carried out as quickly as possible."
Sira Rego appealed to compliance with the law regarding the transfer of these minors to other autonomous communities and recalled that there is an ordinary capacity royal decree that articulates the places by autonomous communities. In this framework, she maintained that the four communities governed by PP and Vox have 2,400 available places, so, in her opinion, co-responsibility should extend to the entire country.
"It will be fulfilled since we have an ordinary capacity royal decree that articulates the places by autonomous communities. The four communities governed by the PP and Vox have 2,400 places available, so it seems sensible that solidarity involves all communities welcoming these children," she pointed out.
Meetings in Ceuta and support for the work of the Minor's Area
Sira Rego has been visiting the autonomous city since Wednesday and this Thursday held a meeting with the chief prosecutor of Ceuta, Silvia Rojas, and with the prosecutor for Minors, José Luis Puerta, in addition to a meeting with entities from the Príncipe neighborhood, where she appeared before the media.
The minister highlighted the "good work" that, in her opinion, the Minor's Area of the Ceuta Government is carrying out and emphasized that filiation and reception in centers have been intensified, which has reduced the presence of children on the streets. Even so, she recalled that minors are still in Ceuta, even when they reside in centers, with the difficulties that this entails for the city. "Children, even if they are in a center, are still in Ceuta with the difficulties that this entails for the city," she affirmed.
