Sumar accuses Feijóo of whitewashing the xenophobia of the far-right Vox and "playing with fire" with coexistence in Ceuta

The ministers of Sumar Mónica García and Ernest Urtasun accused this Wednesday the leader of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, of covering for Vox's xenophobic discourse and contributing to the deterioration of coexistence in Ceuta. Both consider that the PP is using the migratory crisis to wear down the Government while blocking measures aimed at alleviating the situation of the autonomous city.

The Minister of Culture warned in the corridors of Congress that the opposition is being "completely irresponsible" and "playing with fire" at a particularly delicate moment. Urtasun placed the latest episode of violence suffered by a Ceutan minor within the "breeding ground" generated by the far right in recent weeks.

"We must stop sheltering these xenophobic discourses and attitudes of Vox," he demanded of the president of the PP. The minister also pointed to the ultra deputy José María Figaredo, one of Vox's most aggressive voices during the crisis, and asked that no "racist" be allowed to go to Ceuta to "set the streets on fire".

The criticisms come after a control session in which Feijóo and Santiago Abascal again attacked the Government for the management of the massive entry registered at the end of July. The popular leader accused the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, of being conditioned by Morocco, while the leader of the far right affirmed that Moncloa is "blackmailed" by Rabat.

Mónica García has denounced that the PP is putting "all the sticks in the wheels" to prevent Ceuta from returning to normality. The Minister of Health believes that the popular party seeks to politically prolong the crisis to continue "stoking" the Executive and avoid specifying what measures they would apply to manage the presence of thousands of migrants.

The leader of Más Madrid has described the PP as the main "Trojan horse" for national sovereignty for assuming part of the framework used by Vox. She has also reproached both formations for calling "invaders" women and minors who have arrived from Morocco fleeing poverty and situations of helplessness.

"Would an ICE be set up in Ceuta? What would the ultra-right and the far-right do? A massacre in Ceuta?", García asked, referring to the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The minister also recalled the around 140 deaths registered during the crisis and demanded that the PP explain how it plans to execute the generalized expulsions it advocates.

The transfer of minors opens another clash with the PP

Urtasun has placed the transfer of migrants to the Peninsula among the main measures to reduce the pressure on Ceuta. His claim is also directed at the socialist sector of the Executive, to whom he has asked to accelerate the relocation proposed by the Ministry of Youth and Childhood, led by Sira Rego.

The government plan prioritizes some 500 especially vulnerable migrant girls and seeks to facilitate their reception, schooling, and healthcare in different autonomous communities. The Ministry works with the Ceuta authorities and social entities to organize transfers with guarantees and individually addressing the situation of each minor.

Sumar accuses the regional governments of the PP of fueling the confrontation while refusing to collaborate in the reception. Urtasun has asked Feijóo to facilitate Sira Rego's work and stop using his 'barons' to create "the mess" against transfers to the Peninsula.

The popular president already made his position clear during his visit to Ceuta on August 19. "Neither adults nor minors. All must return," he then affirmed, despite the fact that the return of minors requires prior verification of their family situation and the existence of safe reception in Morocco.

Mónica García has demanded that the PP clarify how it intends to materialize that promise. "When he says he would kick everyone out, how would he kick them out, by force?" she asked.
