The Second Vice President and Minister of Labor and Social Economy, Yolanda Díaz, launched this Tuesday a harsh accusation against the Popular Party for its political response to the migratory crisis in Ceuta. Díaz has branded the 'popular' as "pyromaniacs of hate" and has stated that Alberto Núñez Feijóo acts "dressed as Vox".
"Where is Mr. Feijóo going?" she asked during the press conference after the Council of Ministers. The Sumar leader believes that the PP leader has chosen "to work for the far-right" and feed their positions instead of defending a state response based on international legality and human rights.
Díaz has placed one of the most serious lines in the treatment of minors who entered Ceuta on July 30 and 31. "When the Popular Party, breaking all ethical lines, calls children invaders, it means they are willing to do anything," she warned. In her opinion, this discourse fractures coexistence and violates international legislation.
The vice president has maintained that this action is "disqualifying" for a party that aspires to govern Spain. She has also warned of the consequences that turning human rights into an electoral variable can have and has recalled that the country already knows the effects of discourses that target entire groups.
Díaz demands "sense of state" from the PP
"A democrat can never cross the line of violating human rights, even if they think it gives them many votes," Díaz stressed. The vice president has asked the PP to recover its "sense of state" and collaborate in the defense of international legality in the face of a crisis that left between 70,000 and 80,000 entries from Morocco.
The minister has demanded that the debate also address the causes that pushed thousands of people towards the border and the human cost of what happened. Díaz has focused on the 141 people who, she pointed out, died during those events, and has reproached the main opposition party for having removed that reality from its political response.
The intervention comes amid a full escalation between the Government and the PP over the management of Ceuta. While the popular have hardened their migratory discourse and their attacks on the Executive, Díaz believes that Feijóo is adopting the framework of the far-right Vox and contributing to the ultras setting the political agenda.
More transparency in labor contracts
Aside from the clash over Ceuta, Díaz has presented the labor measures approved this Tuesday by the Council of Ministers to reinforce the transparency and predictability of working conditions. The new regulation transposes a European directive pending since 2019 and expands the information that companies must provide to their workforces.
Contracts will have to detail with greater precision the salary, supplements, working hours, shifts, and conditions of the probationary period. Companies must also inform when they use algorithms or automated systems to calculate variable remuneration or make decisions related to the tasks assigned to their workers.
The rule also requires justifying probationary periods exceeding six months with objective reasons linked to the position or the activity performed. Its entry into force will occur 20 days after publication in the Official State Gazette, and workers with current contracts may request the new information in writing.
