The Government declassifies 40 documents on the Ceuta crisis that will be public this Wednesday and reiterates that it has "nothing to hide"

The Minister Spokesperson for the Government, Elma Saiz, announced at the press conference after this Tuesday's Council of Ministers that Pedro Sánchez's Executive will finally declassify 40 documents related to the massive entry of more than 70,000 people into Ceuta, which may clarify the information the Government had before the migratory crisis occurred in Spanish territory.

In this context, Saiz explained that they will bring to light reports dated between July 1 and August 1. They also stated that they would publish more if there were any because "they have nothing to hide." The minister explained that starting this Wednesday, "all documents held by the Government of Spain" can be consulted on the Moncloa website.

The Ceuta reports

The Government faces a key day this Tuesday to clarify what information the authorities handled before the massive entry of people from Morocco into Ceuta. The Council of Ministers will approve the declassification of the CNI reports on the events of July 30 and 31, although the documents will not be public until Wednesday, when the corresponding order is published in the BOE.

The decision will allow consulting the content of the reports and verifying what warnings security agencies received before a crisis that led to the arrival of tens of thousands of people in just a few hours. Pedro Sánchez already announced this Monday that the Executive would make the documents public and placed Ceuta as the Government's "main priority." "We are going to clarify what happened that week in July and, when we do, we will share it with the public with transparency," he stated.

One of the main points of interest will be to determine if intelligence services previously detected signs that would allow anticipating the magnitude of the arrival. Sánchez defended last week in Congress that no report had foreseen either the scale or the probability of a crisis of those dimensions, although he acknowledged that an increase in attempts to enter by swimming had been observed during July.

The Executive maintains that previous communications contained usual warnings about migratory movements and that they did not allow for foreseeing a massive arrival of that magnitude. The publication of the documents will allow this version to be contrasted with the information collected in the reports and comes after criticism from PP and Vox, who have accused the Government of concealing data about the warnings received before the crisis.

Feijóo assumes they are "cut" before reading them

The Government of Pedro Sánchez will declassify this Tuesday all the reports related to the massive entry of more than 70,000 migrant people into Ceuta. In this regard, the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, in a televised intervention, has assumed that they are “cut.”

The documents will be available this Wednesday. However, the 'popular' leader expects “nothing” from them because he considers: “These reports are cut.” 

On the other hand, in response to criticism from the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, who has doubted the impartiality of Judge María Tardón, who has just opened a case to investigate the migratory crisis, Feijóo has stated that he trusts the judge of the Audiencia Nacional very much. 

Along the same lines, he has intensified his criticism of the Sánchez Government, reiterating the appearance of the director of the CNI, Esperanza Casteleiro, before the Official Secrets Commission of the Congress of Deputies.
