Sumar lowers the tension with the PSOE part of the government and urges Sánchez to agree on a housing proposal

While still criticizing the PSOE's initiative to subsidize landlords who do not raise rent prices to incentivize them, Sumar is easing tensions within the Executive and calling for dialogue "within the coalition."

After a week marked by tension within the government between Sumar and the PSOE over Sánchez's proposal to offer bonuses to landlords who do not raise rent prices to incentivize them, now the co-coordinator general of Sumar, Lara Hernández, has asked the PSOE to sit down and negotiate to agree on a housing proposal within the government framework.

Therefore, reducing the tension within the government and calling for dialogue, Hernández has highlighted that "housing is today the country's main social conflict" and "the factory of inequality", and has insisted that "citizens are angry and what they demand are urgent solutions". In a video disseminated to the media within the Sumar Movement Coordinating Group, he added: "We don't want any more patches, we don't want propaganda, and above all, we don't want handouts for the usual suspects".

In this context, the leader criticized, however, the initiatives presented by the PSOE: "The measures that the PSOE has put on the table do not work and no progressive party will support them. Subsidizing landlords does not solve the housing problem. Giving public money to landlords does not lower rent. We are not going to vote for subsidies for property owners". In the same vein, Hernández called for regulating seasonal and room rentals, as well as extending rental contracts that expire this year, emphasizing that "The PSOE has to sit down and agree on a housing proposal within the Government, because the one they have presented on their own is already politically dead".

Finally, he defended that "Taking care of the coalition government is not about launching unilateral measures that no one will support, it is about sitting down with partners, negotiating and agreeing on real solutions. We have been clear in the Royal Decree-law on housing that we presented: intervention, regulation and direct protection for tenants."

A difficult week for Sumar

As we have been reporting on 'ElConstitucional.es', with the electoral calendar activated in **Extremadura and with upcoming stops in Aragon, Castile and León, and Andalusia**, a political earthquake is looming in the **progressive space to the left of the PSOE**.

The leader of Izquierda Unida, Antonio Maíllo, has made a strong statement this Friday by leaking the document he will defend on Saturday before his party's leadership, in which he basically considers the Sumar brand to be finished, launches a motion of censure against Vice President Yolanda Díaz, advocates for new leadership and a new formation, and defends distancing from the PSOE.
