The 20 Palestinian minors evacuated from the Gaza Strip arrived in Spain early this Tuesday, where they will be treated in different hospitals after suffering various pathologies derived from the conflict. Along with them traveled 81 family members, who were also transferred as part of the humanitarian operation.
The plane landed around 5:00 AM at the Torrejón de Ardoz air base, culminating an operation coordinated between the Ministries of Health and Defense, with the participation of different national and international organizations.
During the flight, professionals from the Aeromedical Evacuation Medical Unit (UMAER) participated, including pediatric intensivists, doctors, flight nurses, and health technicians, responsible for ensuring the medical care of the minors throughout the transfer. The operation also included personnel from Wing 45 and the Air Deployment Support Squadron (EADA), responsible for the mission's logistics.
A coordinated operation between Spain and international organizations
The transfer included a stopover in Jordan, where the minors received initial medical attention before continuing their journey to Spain. The operation is part of an international coordination mechanism involving several government departments, including Defense, Foreign Affairs, Interior, and Inclusion, as well as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Commission's Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC).
Regarding their health status, the minors present various complex pathologies, including traumatic injuries, congenital heart diseases, and renal, ophthalmological, and metabolic diseases. Their family members will receive accommodation, psychological support, and basic assistance through facilities managed by the Ministry of Inclusion and collaborating entities.
