The judicial investigation into Begoña Gómez enters a new phase after the decision of judge Juan Carlos Peinado to prosecute her upon finding indications of several crimes, among them influence peddling, embezzlement, misappropriation, professional intrusion, and corruption in business. The indictment order opens the door for the case to advance towards an oral trial.
The resolution holds that there are sufficient elements to continue investigating Gómez's role in an alleged network of institutional and business relationships linked to a university chair and various technological projects. Among the key points, the judge focuses on the use of public resources, such as support staff, for private activities, as well as on the possible appropriation of software developed in the environment of the Complutense University .
Despite the forcefulness of the order, the procedure continues in instruction phase advanced and does not imply guilt. In fact, the Public Prosecutor's Office has maintained its position favorable to dismissal at different moments of the process, evidencing the legal dispute over the solidity of the accusations.
From now on, the accusations must specify their documents and the court will decide if an oral trial is opened.
