The miDNI application comes into operation this Thursday and will allow citizens to legally identify themselves through their mobile phone, without the need to carry the physical document. The tool, promoted by the Ministry of Interior, represents another step in the digitalization of public services and in the adaptation of the DNI to the digital environment, and can be downloaded at the following link.
From now on, users who have the application will be able to prove their identity in multiple everyday situations via mobile, with the same legal validity as the traditional DNI. The system seeks to facilitate procedures and improve security in identification, incorporating technologies that allow verifying the authenticity of the document in real time.
The app generates a secure and temporary code that can be scanned to check the holder's data, thus avoiding the need to physically show the document. This mechanism allows sharing only the necessary information in each case, reinforcing the protection of personal data.
The launch of miDNI is part of the Government's strategy to advance in the digital identity of citizens. However, the physical DNI will continue to be valid and necessary in certain cases, especially in travel or in procedures that require the original document.
The Ministry of Interior has highlighted that the application has been designed with high security standards to prevent fraud or impersonation, and that its use will be progressive as citizens and entities adapt to the new system.
