The far-right Vox has taken advantage of the Supreme Court's conviction of José Luis Ábalos for the mask case to launch a new attack against Pedro Sánchez. In a video released on X, Santiago Abascal has assured that the 24 years in prison imposed on the former minister mean that the Prime Minister "knows perfectly well what future awaits him as soon as he leaves power." The phrase comes despite the fact that the sentence announced this Monday condemns Ábalos, Koldo García and Víctor de Aldama, but does not judge or condemn Sánchez.
Abascal has presented Ábalos as the president's "right-hand man" and recalled that he was the leader chosen by the PSOE to defend the motion of no confidence against Mariano Rajoy in 2018, built precisely on the PP's corruption. From there, Vox has returned to its usual framework: painting the Government as a threat to democracy and accusing Sánchez of being willing to "do anything" to stay in power. "The 24-year sentence for Ábalos makes Sánchez even more dangerous for Spaniards," wrote the ultra leader.

Vox's message also seeks to drag in the Popular Party. Its national spokesperson, José Antonio Fúster, has asked "what else has to happen" for Sánchez to resign or for "someone" to present a motion of no confidence, in a direct allusion to Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who has already demanded elections but continues to rule out that parliamentary route. The far-right is trying to turn Ábalos' sentence into a general cause against the Government and, incidentally, set the pace for the PP in the midst of its offensive against Moncloa.
