Vox has requested this Tuesday from the Central Electoral Board the suspension of mail-in voting for Spaniards registered in the Electoral Census of Absent Residents (CERA), in addition to the review of the procedure for accessing the registry from abroad.
The general secretary of the Vox parliamentary group in Congress, José María Figaredo, defended the initiative at a press conference. According to him, the vote of Spaniards residing abroad should be carried out only in person, stating that "There are very great doubts about how the procedure is being carried out."
Figaredo pointed to differences between the mail-in voting system in Spain and that used abroad. He indicated that, while in the national sphere identification is required both in the application and in the deposit of the vote, abroad the same mechanisms would not be applied, according to his approach. The request also includes the petition to review the instruction of the Ministry of Justice on the application of the Democratic Memory Law regarding access to Spanish nationality by descendants of emigrated Spaniards.
The petition is also part of the political debate surrounding the Democratic Memory Law, which allows access to nationality for descendants of exiled Spaniards.
