The Government will apply the migratory agreements with Morocco to return migrants who arrived in Ceuta

The Government has confirmed that it will apply the current migratory agreements with Morocco to proceed with the return of migrants who have arrived irregularly in Ceuta during the current crisis. This was announced by the Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, who insisted that the Executive will act "complying with legality" and respecting the agreements signed between both countries.

During his speech, Torres stressed that Spain "will apply the agreements it has with Morocco" and emphasized that all actions will be carried out "with the utmost respect for human rights". He also explained that the response will be different depending on whether they are adults or minors, recalling that the latter have specific protection included in national and international legislation.

The minister also defended that the Executive is responding to the situation "with responsibility" and coordinating the actions of the different administrations to face an unprecedented migratory crisis in the autonomous city. Torres explained that Spain will implement the mechanisms provided for in the bilateral agreements signed with Morocco to manage returns, although he insisted that all actions will be carried out respecting human rights and offering a humanitarian response to those who have arrived in Spanish territory. 

The announcement coincides with the visit of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, to Ceuta, where he has traveled with the Minister of Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, to closely follow the evolution of the crisis, coordinate the institutional response, and meet with local authorities and those responsible for the devices deployed in the autonomous city. 

The decision comes in a context of maximum migratory pressure and growing diplomatic tension. In recent hours, several European countries have reacted to the situation, while Spain and Morocco maintain contacts to facilitate the return of migrants and contain new attempts of irregular entry. The Government defends that the application of bilateral agreements constitutes the foreseen way to manage the crisis within the current legal framework.
