The Ministers of Childhood of Equality Sira Rego and Ana Redondo appear in Congress on their management in Ceuta

Sira Rego, Minister of Youth and Childhood, and Ana Redondo, Minister of Equality, this Monday, August 31, will appear in the Congress of Deputies, to address the issue of all their management in relation to the entire crisis affecting Ceuta since last July, due to the massive entry of migrants from Morocco. The two ministers will be in the Lower House, after seven other ministers attended last week. All this, before the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, appears next Thursday.

In said appearance, it is expected that the ministers will report on their efforts in Ceuta, after tensions have increased in recent days with the people of Ceuta, demanding the expulsion of migrants who still remain in the autonomous city. Regarding migrant minors, the Ministry of Childhood has announced that it is working on the transfer of up to 500 girls to the peninsula and has held a sectoral conference in which a credit of 25 million euros was approved for the care of minors in Ceuta. This credit has only been rejected by Castilla y León, Extremadura, and Aragón, places where Vox holds childhood competencies and did not attend the meeting.

The Government, for its part, has highlighted the return of both minors and adults as a priority, and for this reason, Minister Sira Rego has publicly asked for the solidarity of the autonomous communities to host minors in the peninsula and "de-stress" Ceuta, while warning that it will not accept "any mass deportation of children."

On the other hand, the Ministry of Equality is emphasizing finding locations for women and girls, with the intention of avoiding some violent situations, since the Prosecutor's Office has reported that 17 victims have suffered sexual assaults in Ceuta since July 30, when it all began. Of these 17 people, 16 have been women. For this reason, the Government has also decided to reinforce the triage of migrants, requesting help from the European Union, in addition to planning to approve an emergency package of around 165 million euros next Tuesday in the Council of Ministers.
