The National Court will not request more documentation from 2,000 Palabras, the publishing company of OKDiario, for the 242,000 euros paid to Koldo García's defense. The judge investigating the Leire case considers the invoices and bank statements presented last week by lawyer Leticia de la Hoz sufficient for now, although he does not see in these payments a reason to stop the investigation into the alleged bribery attempt of Carmen Pano.
The lawyer provided two invoices and the details of several bank transfers for a total amount of 242,000 euros, recorded as "fees" and "expenses for legal advice and proceedings of Mr. D. Koldo García". The payments would have been made by the digital media's publishing company, but the court considers that this circumstance does not close other possible derivatives of the investigation.
OKDiario's payment does not close the investigation into the alleged bribery
The instructor considers the payment of fees proven, but understands that it does not rule out that Leticia de la Hoz also participated in the alleged operation to favor the PSOE. This is what they maintain, according to sources consulted by Cadena SER, regarding the attempt attributed to the lawyer and instigated by Leire Díez for Carmen Pano to retract having declared that she transferred 90,000 euros in cash to the PSOE headquarters in Ferraz.
The defense of Leticia de la Hoz rejects this interpretation and maintains that it is incompatible for the lawyer to be paid by OKDiario and, at the same time, participate in an operation aimed at benefiting the socialists. However, this argument has not convinced the court for now, which keeps both issues separate.
Anti-Corruption sees no reason for new proceedings
The judge has consulted the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office about the possibility of adopting new measures and shares, initially, its assessment. For now, the documentation presented by Koldo García's defense will not lead to new proceedings regarding the payments made by OKDiario's publisher.
The decision limits the scope of the request made by the lawyer and leaves any new procedural movement pending. For now, the National Court will not request more documentation from 2,000 Palabras and will keep the focus on the part related to the alleged bribery attempt of Carmen Pano.
