The secretary of the Executive of the PNV, Maitane Ipiñazar, has stated that her party is still analyzing the two new royal decree-laws on housing approved by the central Government to set its position for the vote scheduled for this coming Friday in the Congress of Deputies.
In statements to the media in the Basque Parliament, Ipiñazar explained that the party is still examining the content of both norms, aimed at curbing speculation, protecting tenants against housing emergencies, and regulating the rental market with greater rigor.
Negotiations underway and warning from the jeltzale party
The leader of the PNV also referred to the conversations held by the parties of the central Government, PSOE and Sumar, with the opposition to try to obtain sufficient support to pass both norms. Regarding this process, she indicated that “we will see how it ends.”
In any case, Maitane Ipiñazar insisted on the same message that the party has been defending, and stressed that her group “will not allow vulture funds to be equated with small owners.”
“Normal, ordinary people”
Ipiñazar pointed out that “in this country, 90% of the flats on the market” belong to “small owners.” “We are talking about normal, ordinary people, who simply may have inherited a home; and it is common sense that these people cannot be equated with vulture funds,” she stated.
Despite this, Ipiñazar remarked that the PNV continues to review “the documents in detail” and added that “soon we will see what conclusion we reach.”
