The PP accuses Sánchez of "launching a pact" but "doing nothing" by not communicating with Feijóo in the face of the fire crisis

The Deputy Secretary of Institutional Regeneration of the Popular Party, Cuca Gamarra, criticized in an interview on 'Telecinco' the way the Government has managed the crisis the country is going through due to forest fires. The popular leader has demanded that Spain needs a "strong and robust" National Protection System to be able to respond to "crisis situations" as serious as this one.

In her opinion, there are no state policies because "Sanchismo is only focused on resisting judicial cases," just as there is no interest in communication with "the leader of the opposition," which is why she accused the president of talking a lot about a State Pact but "doing absolutely nothing" to achieve it. In this regard, she lamented that "Pedro Sánchez's Government is neither here nor expected."

Gamarra also recalled that a year ago the Government had presented a state pact, although it was finally withdrawn "in Congress itself" for not obtaining sufficient parliamentary support. Likewise, she insisted that, once the emergency ends, it will be necessary to analyze the response given to the fires and clarify questions such as "why have capacities been reduced?" or "why aren't the planes arriving?" "That is what many people are asking today and what we will have to evaluate when the emergency ends," she stated.

Criticism of the political course balance

Referring to the balance offered last Tuesday by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, Gamarra pointed to the Executive leader for offering a "triumphalist" vision and maintained that his main concern now is more to "resist" the corruption cases affecting his environment.

The PP leader also accused the PSOE of trying to discredit the Judiciary to prevent those procedures in which they are involved "from being judged."

On the other hand, she justified the Popular Party's request to postpone the meeting of the Fiscal and Financial Policy Council that was scheduled for this Wednesday, considering that the debate on regional financing should be addressed regardless of the Government's interests. As she expressed, Spain needs a "fair" financing system and not conditioned by the Executive's parliamentary support.

The balance of the political course

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, appeared at 12:10 PM this Tuesday from the Palacio de la Moncloa to give the traditional political course balance, after the last Council of Ministers before the August break, in a context marked by the lack of parliamentary support and the serious crisis caused by forest fires. 

Sánchez has begun his intervention addressing the extreme crisis the country is experiencing due to the forest fires that have been registered in different parts of the country, and has set the number of currently active fires at eight. The president has conveyed his support and empathy to the people affected by this situation and their families, while thanking the public institutions, civil servants, and public servants who are fighting to combat the fire and protect the population.  

Given the seriousness of this situation, Sánchez has invited all political forces, especially PP and Vox, administrations, and society to be united against the fire expressing that "climate denialism is the worst fuel for fires," and has insisted that today more than ever it is "imperative" to achieve that State pact that Spain needs. Even so, the executive leader has generated a climate of calm by assuring that "the end of the tunnel is beginning to be seen," and that the "Government of Spain will continue to mobilize the necessary resources until the last flame is extinguished."
