The PP makes a move and forces the Government to give explanations next week: ministers involved in the management summoned to the Senate

The political pressure on the Government for the management of the migratory crisis in Ceuta continues to increase. After the Popular Party demanded this Thursday in Congress the urgent convocation of the Permanent Deputation to demand the appearance of several ministers and that of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, a coordination meeting of the Executive has been called for this Friday. Likewise, the Government has announced that ministers Margarita Robles, Félix Bolaños, Fernando Grande-Marlaska and José Manuel Albares will appear at their own request in Congress at the end of August. 

In response, the 'populares' have decided to bring forward those explanations and have summoned the same ministers to the Senate next week to account for the Executive's actions regarding the massive arrival of migrants to the autonomous city. The appearances are scheduled for August 12, 13 and 17.

Telematics meeting this Friday

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will lead a coordination meeting by videoconference this Friday with several members of his Executive to analyze the situation in Ceuta after the massive entry of migrants into the territory. The meeting, called by the head of the Executive and which he will direct from the official residence of La Mareta, in Lanzarote, will serve to monitor the situation one week later. 

The meeting will be attended by the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, the Minister of Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations and Government Spokesperson, Elma Saiz and the Minister of Youth and Childhood, Sira Rego, who travels today to Ceuta. 

Likewise, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Diego Martínez, will participate, replacing Minister José Manuel Albares, who is on an official trip to Colombia accompanying the king on the occasion of the inauguration of the new president of the country, Abelardo de la Espriella.

Likewise, several ministers will appear at their own request in Congress at the end of August. Robles will do so on the 25th, Bolaños on the 27th, Marlaska and Albares on the 28th. 

Urgent convocation of the Permanent Deputation

The Popular Party on Thursday requested in Congress the urgent convocation of the Permanent Deputation for the Ministers of Interior, Defense, Foreign Affairs, and Presidency to appear and provide explanations on the management of the migratory crisis in Ceuta. In addition, the party reiterated its request to hold an extraordinary plenary session with the appearance of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, an initiative it already registered on July 31 and which it considers necessary due to the magnitude of the situation.

The popular party members argue that the Executive must be held accountable for the response offered after the irregular entry of tens of thousands of immigrants into the autonomous city, an episode that, according to the PP, has caused around 150 deaths. In this context, they criticize that the Government has faced the crisis "disregarding" the situation and censure that Pedro Sánchez continues on vacation at the official residence of La Mareta while, in their opinion, Spain is going through one of the biggest security and immigration crises of recent years.

Specifically, the PP demands the appearance of the Minister of Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, to report on the actions of his department regarding citizen security, immigration management, and the direction of the State Security Forces and Corps, as well as the measures planned to prevent another massive entry of immigrants.

The initiative also requests that the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, explain the mission carried out by the Armed Forces during the crisis; that the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, report on the Government's diplomatic actions and the international consequences of the crisis; and that the Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, report on the actions developed by his department in support of the President of the Government during this situation.
