The Popular Party has brought to Congress a battery of measures to demand an immediate response to the situation in Ceuta. The Deputy Secretary of Institutional Regeneration of the PP, Cuca Gamarra, has announced the registration of a non-legislative proposal (PNL) with eleven points aimed at immediately restoring "normalcy" in the autonomous city, strengthening its security, and guaranteeing territorial integrity.

The initiative proposes, among other measures, an urgent action in Ceuta, the reinforcement of the protection of territorial integrity, and the creation of a single command to coordinate the State's response to the crisis. For the popular party, the Executive is not providing a response commensurate with the dimension of the situation and has criticized the absence of clear political leadership from Pedro Sánchez.

"Sánchez no longer acts as President of the Government. He has become a character, a hologram that appears behind a screen, but who is not capable of leading a country," Gamarra criticized, accusing the Executive of maintaining an attitude of "incapacity, irresponsibility, and passivity" in the face of the situation in the autonomous city.

The PP maintains that the Ceuta crisis should not be approached solely from a humanitarian perspective and focuses on security and the defense of the territory. Gamarra believes that the Government was warned of the risks and that, despite this, it did not act before the situation worsened. "They were warned and did nothing. When it happened, they did not react, and 17 days later, sufficient and urgent measures are still not being adopted to guarantee the freedoms and rights of the people of Ceuta," Gamarra stated.

The PP demands explanations from Mónica García

The parliamentary offensive of the popular party also includes several requests for appearances. The party will request that the Minister of Health, Mónica García, explain in Congress the health situation in Ceuta, what actions her department has launched, and why, according to the PP, she did not travel to the city during the first sixteen days of the crisis. The popular leader has also lashed out at the minister for her statements about the city's health situation. Gamarra considers it especially serious that García has denied the existence of a collapse and accuses the Minister of Health of having disqualified the people of Ceuta.

Requests for appearances by Saiz and Rego

In addition to the Minister of Health, the Popular Party has requested that the Permanent Deputation urgently convene the appearance of the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz. The popular party wants her to explain the migratory policies developed by the Executive and the impact that her decisions, including the extraordinary regularization, have had on the management of irregular immigration.

The third request is addressed to the Minister of Youth and Children, Sira Rego. The PP demands that she account for the consequences of the migratory emergency on the minors who remain in Ceuta and for the actions adopted by her department to guarantee compliance with legality in relation to these minors, with special attention to girls.

The non-legislative proposal announced by Gamarra will be transferred for debate in the Joint Commission on National Security and in the Interior Commission. The initiative is part of the PP's strategy to demand a response from the Government that, according to the popular party, must go beyond the management of the migratory emergency and focus on the recovery of security and normality in the city.
