Santiago Abascal has launched his pre-campaign agenda for the next general elections on November 29 with a tour through several autonomous communities. The president of the far-right Vox will visit Castilla y León, Galicia, Asturias, and the Balearic Islands this week, with public events and statements to the media with which he seeks to mobilize his supporters for the polls.
The agenda comes after Abascal has hardened his discourse against Pedro Sánchez. The leader of Vox has gone so far as to state that the next elections "will not be clean" and has accused the President of the Government of wanting to stay in power "by cheating," without presenting evidence to support an alleged electoral manipulation. His statements are part of a political strategy that places suspicions about the electoral process at the center of his message.
Ponferrada, A Coruña, and Avilés: Abascal's first stops
The route begins this Tuesday, October 20, in Ponferrada (León), where Abascal will lead a public event at 7:00 p.m. in the Plaza Mayor. The town had already received the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, on October 11, at an event held at the Térmica Cultural.
On Wednesday 21, the leader of Vox will travel in the morning to A Coruña, where he plans to make a statement to the media in the Plaza de María Pita. In the afternoon, he will continue his tour in Avilés (Asturias), with a public event at 7:00 p.m. in the Plaza de Camposagrado. On Thursday 22, Abascal will return to Castilla y León with two appointments: a statement to the media in the Plaza Mayor of Burgos at 12:00 p.m. and another public event in Segovia at 7:00 p.m. The party thus continues its territorial deployment in a pre-campaign in which the leader intends to visit as many points in Spain as possible.
The agenda will continue on Friday, October 23, in Menorca, where Vox has announced a public event at 7:00 p.m., although the location is still pending confirmation. On Saturday 24, Abascal will visit Mallorca in the morning and then travel to Ibiza. In Palma, the event is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. in front of the Seu de Mallorca. In the afternoon, the gathering will be held at the Santa Lucía bastion, in Ibiza, at 7:00 p.m. The Balearic route is part of Vox's attempt to expand its territorial presence before the general elections.
Accusations against Sánchez and a campaign based on confrontation
In addition to organizing events in different communities, Abascal has intensified his criticism of the Government. In an interview published on Sunday by La Razón and reported by Europa Press, he stated that he was "very worried" about the election result and maintained that Sánchez "can do anything to stay in power." He also claimed that the Executive would use its alleged "militias" to intimidate Vox voters.
The leader of the party has also linked his suspicions to the so-called grandchildren's law and the electoral census, by insinuating that there could be new maneuvers to alter the result. However, he has not presented evidence to show that the Government is preparing electoral fraud. Therefore, these statements should be understood as political accusations by Abascal, not as accredited facts.
In parallel, the president of Vox has offered the PP to negotiate "some understanding" for the Senate and has demanded electoral "sacrifices" to stop the joint candidacy of the PSOE and Frente Amplio. Thus, Abascal's pre-campaign combines travel throughout the national territory with a discourse of confrontation with Sánchez and the search for agreements with the popular party.
