The accusations of sexual assault against Julio Iglesias, which came to light yesterday, have provoked a rapid wave of responses from various political and institutional entities demanding the withdrawal of all public recognitions of the singer. The outcry has intensified following a controversial social media message from the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, in defense of the artist.

The Ministry of Equality demanded that the complaints be investigated "to the end," emphasizing that the testimonies of former employees must be treated with the utmost seriousness, regardless of the accused's prestige or public relevance, unlike President Isabel Díaz Ayuso. The department led by Ana Redondo has recalled the need not to minimize victims' testimonies, regardless of the person.

This position was also supported by the Secretary General of Podemos, Ione Belarra, who publicly defended the need to name aggressors with power and public relevance when there are accusations of sexual violence. Belarra stressed that fame cannot serve as a shield against these types of accusations and argued that making these cases visible is key for other victims to dare to speak out. In her appearance, she insisted that accusations must be investigated "to the end" and demanded that institutions act firmly against possible abuses, without exceptions or privileges.

Following this line, the spokesperson for Más Madrid in the City Council, Rita Maestre, called on Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida to revoke the title of Favorite Son of Madrid granted to Julio Iglesias. Maestre argued that institutions cannot maintain public honors for individuals facing accusations of this gravity and defended that the City Council act with coherence and responsibility, sending a clear message of support to victims and rejection of any form of sexual violence.
