The trial against Alberto González Amador, partner of the regional president Isabel Díaz Ayuso, accused of tax fraud, document forgery, and belonging to a criminal group, will not be held before the Madrid regional elections of 2027. The postponement is due to the heavy workload in the Criminal Courts of Madrid, which makes it difficult to set a date for the oral hearing before the middle of that year.

The Criminal Courts located on Julián Camarillo street in the capital, where the case is being processed, have seen their workload increase with the entry into force of the so-called “Bolaños reform”, a reform of the judicial organization that replaces traditional courts with district courts and assigns them new responsibilities, which has increased their workload and delayed the setting of trial dates.

The postponement of the trial is also part of the Judiciary's usual practice of avoiding cases with significant public impact coinciding with key electoral periods, such as the regional elections scheduled for May 2027 in Madrid, so as not to influence the campaign of the current president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso. Although the process formally affects a private citizen, the political impact that holding the trial during the pre-campaign or campaign period would have has been one of the obvious factors taken into account

Preamble

The case against González Amador **stems from complaints of alleged tax irregularities and the use of false invoices to deduct fictitious expenses** in previous years, for which the Prosecutor's Office is seeking several years in prison. The investigating judge, the judge of Court of Instruction number 19 of Madrid, has considered that there are **sufficient indications** to take the case to trial, after rejecting appeals from the defense.

Furthermore, another line of investigation into his business activities remains open, in which possible crimes of business corruption and disloyal administration linked to companies connected to his circle are being analyzed. This case is awaiting the delivery of the corresponding reports by the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard.

The postponement of the trial has generated varied reactions in the political and judicial spheres, with some sectors criticizing the saturation of the courts and others defending the avoidance of high-impact proceedings being held during electoral periods.
