The spokesperson for Vox in Congress, Pepa Rodríguez de Millán, has stated that her party does not rule out “any formula” to reach an agreement with the Popular Party for the candidacy to the Senate, and has also stressed that there is no rush to close an agreement, because, she said, “deadlines are there to be exhausted”.

In an interview with El programa de AR, Rodríguez de Millán avoided going into details about the conversations with the Popular Party, although she did insist that Vox is considering “many” options to try to protect the Upper House from the understanding reached by the left.

A pact to stop the left-wing coalition

PP and Vox are exploring different alternatives to articulate a joint candidacy for the Senate, with the aim of counteracting the coalition formed by the PSOE, the Frente Amplio and the territorial lefts, which are running together for the Upper House to prevent the fragmentation of the bloc from allowing a new absolute majority for the Popular Party.

After this agreement of the lefts became known, the leader of Vox, Santiago Abascal, extended a hand to the Popular Party to do something similar, optimize their votes and contain the growth of the left-wing bloc.

For his part, the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has confirmed that both formations are seeking an agreement and has even suggested the possibility of a transfer of senators by autonomous designation. The objective, he explained, is to reach three-fifths of the Upper House, a majority that would allow them to renew the Constitutional Court and the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ).

“We have to defend Spain by exhausting all possible avenues”

Rodríguez de Millán has defended that Vox faces the elections on November 29 with “responsibility” and with the will to assume “sacrifices”, and has reiterated her party's willingness to reach an understanding with the PP to “protect the Senate from the agreements and stratagems of Pedro Sánchez”.

“We maintain a will for understanding (with Alberto Núñez Feijóo's party) to protect the Senate from Sánchez's agreements and stratagems,” the parliamentary spokesperson stressed.

The Vox leader added that her party wants to defend Spain's interest “by exhausting all possible avenues”, and thus summarized her party's strategy for these elections: “The left has shown that it is willing to do anything and we are willing to do anything to defend it, and with that philosophy we face these elections.”

The electoral calendar is pressing

The deadline for submitting candidacies for the elections on November 29 began this Wednesday and will end on Monday 26 at 00:00 hours. Asked about these deadlines, Rodríguez de Millán replied that “deadlines are there to be exhausted”.
