Xosé Manuel Beiras Torrado —born in Santiago de Compostela in 1936 and deceased in Brión in 2026—, a historical figure of Galician nationalism and an economist with a long political career in Galicia, passed away last night at his home in A Reboraina, in Brión, at the age of 90.

Among the first public reactions is that of the leader of the Bloque Nacionalista Galego (BNG), Ana Pontón, who shared a photograph with him on social media and highlighted the mark he leaves on several generations.
In her message, Ana Pontón stated that “he leaves a great mark on several generations of Galicians”, and added that “he has a place forever in the heart and in the history of the Galician People”. Pontón closed her publication with a message of support to the family: “A strong embrace to Ricardo, Daniel and all his family”.
